KÖLDÖLKJÁRÁS - NABELGANG - NAVEL WALK
research workshop performance
This workshop explores the intersection of artistic practice and parenting, questioning how creative processes can exist within shared, intergenerational spaces. Rather than separating the roles of artist and parent, the workshop proposes a practice where both can coexist and inform each other in real time.
The format creates a studio environment in which parents and their children move, dance, and interact together. Instead of prioritising efficiency, focus, or control, the workshop develops a flexible structure that embraces interruption, play, and shifting attention as generative forces. It asks how artistic thinking and movement-based practices change when care, presence, and unpredictability are not obstacles but active materials of creation.
Central to the workshop is the idea of “time-fusion”: a shared rehearsal rhythm anchored in the present moment, where adult and child co-create through movement without hierarchy. The adult is invited to unlearn established modes of discipline, authorship, and bodily control, opening space for spontaneous, often unexpected contributions from children. In this shared space, play and movement are not a break from creative work, but a core choreographic and dramaturgical principle.
Through a series of loose scores and improvisational movement structures, participants are offered tools to develop their own ways of working with children in the studio. The workshop functions as a toolkit for freelance artists and parents, supporting practices thatdo not rely on separating domestic and artistic spheres, but instead allow them to contaminate and transform each other. This is being developed in collaboration with my research partner Nóra Barna, choreographer and performer, as well as through a shared process with my daughter.
The title of the workshop itself was generated by my four-year-old during an improvisation session with words and movement, reflecting the core of the practice: a space where artistic language is continuously rewritten through intergenerational encounter.
Facilitators: Beatrix Trisha Simkó, Nóra Barna
